Messaging apps are common service already, but back in time, there were just a few. Over the years lots of companies started offering new and free services and now, in 2019, we have a ton of apps to use. We took the time to use all of them and here is the list of some of the most reliable messaging services to use nowadays.

1. Facebook Messenger

Hands down, this is one of the most used messengers at the moment. It’s a lot easier for Facebook users to chat and talk with their friends, without the need to look for them in another place. You can send text, images, and even video messages there. Well, it’s not a good app for sending some files and it sometimes blocks links, but generally, it’s a good app to use, if you’re a Facebook user.

2. Viber

Viber is the app to try if you haven’t. It’s widely available and customizable. It’s a perfect place for video calls, has interesting stickers and most of all is reliable to communicate through. It “adopts” your device language, so it’s easier to use and understand if you’re a non-English speaker. It also has a desktop version, which you can install and use even for business needs.

3. Skype

This is one of the oldest messaging apps known. It began its journey in 2003 and only a few years later gained popularity all over the world. With its features back then everyone was able to use it for chat, video messages, and sending huge files safely. It was developed to be used mostly on computers, but in later years was transformed to be used by smartphone and tablet users as well. Even now, it’s a common application used by not only normal users but by businesses as a safe form of communication.

4. WhatsApp

This application was developed 10 years ago as a freeware and cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP) service. It’s mostly used for sending text messages and voice calls, as well as video calls, images, and other media, documents, and user location. WhatsApp is used all over the world, and it’s mostly used in Brazil, India, and lots of countries in Europe.

5. Snapchat

This is the media of young people. This is a multimedia sharing app, which is mostly known for the fact, that user’s content is available for a short period of time. There’s no more hiding, and teens and young adults can safely show their images and clips, knowing that it will disappear soon. Later after the creation, the company added their “Story” and “Discover” features, that allow some business to run adds on the platform. The app allows not only pictures and videos, but also video messaging and it’s one of the first applications to allow user interaction with virtual stickers and augmented reality objects. You can use Snapchat on the desktop, but only as an app. There’s no website version as Instagram.

6. Kik

Kik is the messenger to use for sending and receiving text messages, photos, videos, sketches, mobile webpages, and other content. Unlike some of the other messengers, it allows users to register without the use of phone numbers and guarantee anonymity.

7. LINE

LINE is one of the biggest messengers, developed by an Asian company. It is based in Tokyo, Japan, but owned by South Korean Naver Corporation. It’s commonly used for sending text and video messages as well as voice messages and images. It’s largely used not only in Japan but also in countries such as Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia and in the last year or so worldwide by different users. Apart from messaging, Line also provides various services including digital wallet as Line Pay, news stream as Line Today, video on demand as Line TV, and digital comic distribution as Line Manga and Line Webtoon.

8. KakaoTalk

KakaoTalk is the most used messaging application in South Korea, but with K-Wave slowly and surely gaining worldwide success, lots of fans want to use the apps used by their idols. Managed by Kakao Corp., the app allows users to make voice and video calls, as well as free chat. It’s commonly used for creating chat rooms to discuss various subjects will lots of people. It’s available on iOS, Android, Bada OS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Nokia Asha, Windows, and macOS.
